Fort Joy was an open-air prison on an island off the Reaper’s Coast. While it contained the ruins of a fortress belonging to the ancient Sourcerer King, Braccus Rex, Sourcerers were left in semi-freedom on the island — though unable to escape.
It was said that a “cure” was offered to Sourcerers, to free them from the Source. In truth, the Magisters in charge used tools and techniques invented by Braccus Rex to control and monopolize Source use. Beyond collars capable of blocking their Source, other methods were employed: using a spell, they could purge the Source from their target’s body — stripping away their soul as well.
Purged Sourcerers were called Silent Monks. They were later transformed into Shriekers — soulless, Source-less atrocities, nearly invincible and able to unleash devastating power on any living being in range, friend or foe alike. The most powerful Sourcerers could also became Gheists, either combat specialized monks and bodyguards.
The Lady Vengeance
The Lady Vengeance was a Magister warship. Originally, it had been an ancestor tree from the Elven forests, uprooted and transformed into livingwood planks to construct the vessel. Thanks to its elven origins, the ship retained part of its soul and consciousness.
The vessel was stolen from the docks of Fort Joy by a group of Seekers and Godwoken. With some effort, they managed to establish contact with the ship’s figurehead and befriend it, eventually taking the helm and traveling together to the Reaper’s Coast.
The Lady Vengeance proved to be a great ally, ultimately carrying them to the final leg of their journey — Arx, the capital.
