Prelude

In the time when the world was populated solely by Eternals — the precursor race of the seven sentient races of Rivellon — the Seven Gods were known as the Seven Lords who had ruled over Rivellon under the God King's command.

This changed the moment the scholar Fane discovered that the Veil between Rivellon and the Void was made of Source and presented this fact to the Seven Lords who began to desire this power.
After the God King found out about this and had Fane with his family punished, the Seven used Aeteran — a weapon powerful enough to destroy the Eternals empowered by the Source, originally created to help the God King but turned against him — stole the Source from the Veil and banished the God King and all other Eternals into the Void.
Only Fane, his wife and daughter and few other Eternals escaped this fate*.

Seven Gods, Seven Races

Each one of the Seven Lords that later became the Seven Gods of Rivellon, created a mortal race of beings in their own image :

  • Duna, for the dwarves : “Dwarves are fiercely nationalistic followers of their empress. Their proud society reveres Source and is clan-based, deeply divided between haves and have-nots.”

  • Rhalic, for the humans : “Adaptable, expansionist and superstitious, humans are the dominant race of Rivellon. Civil wars have ravaged their lands, but not their authority.”

  • Tir-Cendelius, for the elves : “Elegant and long-lived, elves are skilled sorcerers. Memory is the keystone of elven culture; they can absorb memories by consuming the flesh of others.”

  • Zorl-Stissa, for the lizards : “Lizards of the Ancient Empire are cultured aristocrats - Source adepts who follow rules of law. Outsiders see their society as elitist. Lizards see outsiders as servants.”

  • Xantezza, for the imps, mostly died or left Rivellon for another dimension.

  • Vrogir, created and enslaved the orcs, which mostly died or left this world years ago.

  • Amadia, for wizards : Unlike the other seven races, the wizards were not created. The legend says Amadia was a lone goddess and preferred to not create her own race. However she fell in love with a mortal and eventually had demigod children with him. She gave her lover immortality and decided to be a patron goddess to all who use magic. This is why she has worshippers within all 6 races.

The Gods' purpose was they could gain more power through worship, and devouring their deceased souls in the Hall of Echoes. The mortals were unknowingly a mere source of power all along their life and death for the Gods.

It is said that there were originally eight Eternals; the eighth is said to have created the race of demons, but was himself banished.
