A scholar, Fane discovered the truth about the Veil and tried to inform the God King, but was ordered to cease his research. Hoping to overturn the situation, he approached the Seven Lords to plead his case — but upon discovering his “treachery,” they sentenced him to be purged of Source and to eternal imprisonment in a tomb. His wife and daughter were also imprisoned separately. The Seven Gods, armed with Fane’s research, rebelled against the God King, overthrew him, and banished him and the other Eternals to the Void. Millennia later, Fane escaped his tomb as an undead, finding a world completely changed. The era of the Eternals had been erased from history — no one had ever heard of it.
Dallis herself desired to purge the world of Source — restoring the Veil, but depriving all Sourcerers, including Lucian, of their power. Fane’s wife remained missing; he would search for her after the events of the game. If Fane were to become Divine, he would have the possibility of choosing between bringing back the Eternals and the God King, or only the Eternals, at the cost of the current inhabitants of Rivellon’s freedom. Fane's past before the events in Divinity: Original Sin 2 are stated in the graphic novel « Godwoken from Larian Store. See this page for more details.
