Divinity: Original Sin 2: The Red Prince and the lizards

miniatureThe lizards lived primarily in the Ancient Empire. Their people were made up of nobles and royalty — and their slaves. Their society was divided into three ruling factions: the House of War — from which came future rulers of the royal line, including the Red Prince himself — the House of Law, and the House of Dreams, responsible for religious and spiritual matters.

Lizards formed families according to their traits and lineage. Members of this race possessed great intelligence, but also a strong sense of unity. They're also known as being incredible lovers. However, their hostility toward other peoples and races, and especially their tendency to enslave them, made them far from welcome in other lands.

Some said that lizards were once proud dragons. Dragons had, in theory, vanished long ago, and no one truly knew why or how.

miniatureThe Red Prince was a rare lizard with crimson skin. A royal heir of the House of War, he bore the characteristic arrogance of his rank toward commoners and other races. He lived in the Forbidden City, where it was as impossible for outsiders to enter as it was for those inside to leave. From there, he orchestrated wars — and had never lost a single one.

For amusement, he summoned demons and spent an entire year in their company, drinking wine and playing chess. He also spent his nights with a succubus — until the day she suddenly attacked him without explanation, attempting to kill him. Something allowed him to stop her, but unfortunately, it was too late — the guards had found him in the company of a demon.

As a result, he was sent to Fort Joy. To make matters worse, strange assassins tried to take his life again and again. He sought to meet Stingtail, a Dreamer — lizard of the House of Dreams — capable of predicting his future thanks to the powerful hallucinogenic drudanae, an addictive medicinal plant.

Having become a Godwoken, he traveled alongside the others, and while learning to sometimes set aside his pride, he eventually encountered the Shadow Prince. This figure came from an unknown fourth faction of the Ancient Empire — the House of Shadows. It was he who had trapped the Red Prince with the succubus, and he who had made attempts on his life.

In truth, there was a strange prophecy that foretold that the Red Prince, together with the Red Princess, would give birth to a dragon heir — heralding the rebirth of this mighty species. According to the Shadow Prince, if dragons had vanished in the past, it was because they had attempted to exterminate the elven people and were punished in turn, transformed into almost harmless lizards.

He therefore sought to convince the Red Prince to abandon his destiny and kill the Red Princess, Sadha, who had apparently allied herself with the Black Ring.

Le Prince Rouge aurait finalement le choix de devenir le père des dragons, et revenir en héros chez lui, monter sur le trône et favoriser la paix.

The Red Prince's past before the events in Divinity: Original Sin 2 are stated in the graphic novel « Godwoken » from Larian Store.
