Divinity: Original Sin 2: The Beast and the dwarves

miniatureMarcus “Beast” Miles was a noble dwarf who had fomented a rebellion to overthrow Queen Justinia, his cousin. Unfortunately, the coup failed, and nineteen of his comrades were hanged. He was banished and abandoned on the Isle of Mists, a deserted island.

He and his bicorne hat, Fran, managed to escape, find a ship, and rebuild a crew while sailing the high seas. Knowing the queen continued to pursue her dark schemes, he set out to contact Lohar, a crime lord on Reaper’s Coast, to devise a new plan. On the way, his ship, the Wave Dancer, was attacked and boarded by Magisters. In an attempt to drive them off, he drew upon the Source and summoned a storm the likes of which no one had ever seen — but the result was the sudden appearance of Voidwoken.

He chose to surrender himself to the Magisters to ensure the escape of his ship and crew, and was taken to Fort Joy, where he met the other Sourcerers and discovered his destiny as Duna’s Godwoken. Thanks to his reputation among the dwarves, he found allies everywhere on his way.

Over the course of his story, he uncovered that his cousin was in fact being manipulated by Isbeil, her closest adviser and a former scientist. In truth, she had been one of the members of the Black Ring who had fallen victim to the deathfog bomb unleashed by Ifan on Lucian’s orders. After her death, she was approached by the God King, who offered her a new life and the chance for revenge.

She used the dwarf Queen, Justinia, to achieve her ends. With Lohar’s help, she secured a shipment of deathfog from the Magisters and had it delivered to Arx. She kidnapped Sourcerers captured by the Magisters and conducted experiments on them. In secret, she built a laboratory and an enormous machine in the underground of Arx, the capital — designed to release the deadly gas throughout the city via the sewer network.

When Marcus revealed the truth to his cousin, Isbeil turned on her and imprisoned her. She tried to kill the Godwoken, but failed — and the Beast put an end to her schemes and freed Justinia.

The Beast's past before the events in Divinity: Original Sin 2 are stated in the graphic novel « Godwoken » from Larian Store.
